
J.G. Monnet & C°, cognac house created by local vineyard owners, was founded in 1838 under the name of « SOCIETE DES PROPRIETAIRES VINICOLES DE COGNAC ». In 1897, it took the name of its President, Jean-Gabriel Monnet. His son, Jean Monnet, future founder of the European Union, succeeded him after the 1st world war.
President in 1897 of the « Company of the Vineyard Owners of Cognac». He then became the owner of the company to which he gave his name and also the salamander as an emblem.
House situated in Cognac and built in the early part of the 19th century.
Jean Monnet, Jean-Gabriel’s son, ran the family House of cognac between the two world wars before definitively devoting all his time to his well known political career and becoming the Father of the European Union.
